On March 5, 2026, AWHS Principal Jacob Gran announced, via email, that the TEAM Academy would be cut from a two-year program to one year. Diana Goldberg, the teacher who built this program per the TUHSD Board direction, was informed of this fundamental change to the program only 10 minutes before the email to parents was sent. Counselors who manage student schedules were blindsided. Students found out via a text. 

In the email, Principal Gran stated: “A key factor in this decision is the amount of instructional time students miss in a two-year model due to extended field experiences.” When asked to provide the absentee data that informed the decision, Gran did not provide them, and instead offered an alternate reason: “budget constraints, declining tax revenue and rising operating costs and a contractual staffing model”. The parents who contacted the Principal directly have obtained additional inconsistent reasons, raising a fair question about their validity.
